It is very comfortable and easy to see a tiger in the Zoo, but there is always a difference between a Zoo and the Jungle. I think the wildlife in the Jungle that get drive by their basic instincts are more peaceful than the greedy life in the city.
Taking forward my interest in Photography to a next level, it was my first exploration in to Wild life photography at “Tadoba”.
Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve is a tiger reserve in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra state in India. Around 105 km from the nearest of Nagpur in the state of Maharastra (India), the place is 2 hrs driving distance from Nagpur by road. Nagpur can be reached either by Road, Train or Flight from many parts of the country since it is located at the central part of India.
On 15th April 2017 evening we started our journey from Mumbai to Nagpur by Train (Duronto Express). We reached Nagpur station at around 7:15 am. We had already made our booking in three months advance in the “Svasara” resort at Tadoba along with our Safari trips. It is always advisable to make the advance booking to visit to this place since there are limited vehicles allowed for the Safari and hence everyone do the advance booking and block the dates.
The resort had arranged a vehicle for us to pick up from Nagpur. We reached the resort situated near the Kolara Gate of the Tiger reserve at around 10:00 am. It was a great resort with the high standard of Hospitality. There were many photographer, tourists from India as well as from abroad preferred to stay in the Svasara resort may be because of their Hospitality and the expertise in the Wildlife.
We started our first safari on the same day i.e. on 16th April 2017 afternoon (2:00 pm- 6:00 pm) and to our luck we saw the Tiger Matkasur taking rest in a water body and also a Leopard walking near to a water watercourse. It was an awesome experience to see the Wild life from an open Gypsy and taking photographs of their natural life as if we were in their house and they allowed us to roam around freely without interfering too much in to their life. During our 5 day stay and 8 safaris we covered the three zones ( Tadoba, Mohruli, Kolsa) in the tiger reserve and spotted the animals like tiger (Named as Matkasur, Maya, Choti Tara) , leopard, wild dogs, sloth bear and also many other animals like, spotted deer, sambar, barking deer, Wild dogs, Nilgai, gaur, bison, crocodile etc also many different species of birds.
Day 1: Afternoon Safari at Kolara Gate in Tadoba Zone ( 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm)
Day 2: Morning Safari (6:00 am- 10:00 am) and afternoon safari at Kolara Gate in Tadoba Zone
Day 3: Morning Safari at Tadoba Zone at Kolara gate

Day4: Morning Safari at Tadoba Zone-2 at Kolara gate
Afternoon Safari at Navegaon Gate
Day 5: Morning Safari at Kolsa Zone (Pangdi Gate)
Brief about Tadoba: Tadoba National Park Established as a reserve in 1935, the area was declared a park in 1955. The Tadoba National Park and Andhari Wildlife Santuary together form the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve. The name “Tadoba” is the name of the God “Tadoba” or “Taru”, praised by the tribal people who live in the dense forests of the Tadoba and Andhari region, while the Andhari river that meanders through the forest gives the ‘Andhari’ name.
Tadoba Andhari Reserve is the largest national park in Maharashtra. Total area of the reserve is 625.4 square kilometres (241.5 sq mi). This includes Tadoba National Park, created in 1955 with an area of 116.55 square kilometres (45.00 sq mi) and Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary created in 1986 with an area of 508.85 square kilometres (196.47 sq mi).
Though it is told that during the summer season i.e during April-May the chances of spotting a tiger is more due to extreme hot climate ( i.e temp vary from 23 degree C during early morning to 47 Degree C during afternoon), the quality of wildlife activities are more during Jan-Feb month. But it is difficult to spot a wildlife action during Jan-Feb. Based on my discussion with the locals though the reserve is open during all months & seasons, the best time is during Nov- May. For a wildlife enthusiasts I think this place is worth to be visited at least once in all seasons to experience the complete wildlife activities and wildlife photography. The administrative authorities also allow a complete day safari inside the jungle and for the same a prior permission needs to be taken. Since we came to know about it after reaching there, we may again visit for a complete day safari some other day for Wildlife photography.
If you love adventure and wildlife this is the best place to explore…
