An example of one of the best planned engineering design made for the toy train to move, and now it is one of the most visited tourist place in Darjeeling, located on Hill Cart Road and takes approx. 20 minutes by taxi from Darjeeling town

Batasia Loop was commissioned in 1919, because it was an engineering requirement for the toy train to be able to move across the steep gradient. Batasia Loop was created by the British to counter such sharp descent. It is considered as one of the greatest engineering feats.

At the center of the Batasia Loop is the War Memorial .This was opened in 1995 to commemorate the Gorkha soldiers of the Darjeeling Hills who sacrificed their lives in various wars after India’s independence.
